Between old friends that find it and get drunk and post obnoxious comments. My ex finding it and emailing about how great his life is without kids and how sucky my life looks in this blog. And now we found out (because of the blog tracker) that Marc's ex also has been lurking as well without ever commenting .

I have also been pretty honest in my blogging never sugar coating our life. Airing my concerns about the direction we are taking ect. I thought I was talking to friends , family and a few Internet friends with similar interests/ values. These people would comment or if they did not feel comfortable commenting send me an email about a post. We were both pretty shocked to see our ex's checking the blog 5 , 6 sometimes 10 times a day. It freaked us out.

We may start another blog . This time using initials or nicknames and if you want to know where you can email us or just post a comment here. Maybe we will start it after the 2nd baby is born.

Anyway I am still going to be checking up on all my favorite blogs and staying in touch with all my Internet friends. We were just hoping that this blog would keep us in touch when we moved away in January, but we might try again . Take care.

My B-day is tomorrow

Question: Am I too old to put pink streaks in my hair for a month? We were supposed to go out for my B-day but the babysitter called and had "something" come up. Oh well. I am happy to be home and watch the marathon. Marc ran the club Championship this morning. I did not . I think my last race was last week. I was pretty wiped out after. Anyway it was great to see the team. Everyone did really well in the hot and VERY Humid morning. Jared took his amazing pictures.

So i have gotten some emails asking me for a shot of myself. So i am posting this shot . Rory is trying to get me to stand up at the race. I know that I have about 7 pregnant readers. And some of you guys are runners. So I just want to put a quick disclaimer on this. As you guys know the past month has been a bit stressful. And as I start my 33rd week of pregnancy I am not proud to say I have only gained 15 pounds. At this point with Rory I had almost gained 30 pounds. The baby is fine ...however the doctor would would like to see me gain weight. And ask Marc I am doing my best. I have also cut my mileage back. But I really dont think it was running it was literally moving twice and all the drama.

oh No Deena Kastor just dropped out !!

Pine Bush , New York

Who are you ?

Isaac Hayes tribute

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gX8cIdXlHuU&feature=related

lurkers

So yesterday I put a blog ticker on my blog. Basically it tracks how many hits I get and it gives me the IP address of anyone that visits. With that address I am able to obtain the city and state in which they are lurking from. I always suspected that I had more viewers then actually posters , which i guess is always the case. But I am really shocked and a bit alarmed to see almost 70 hits 24 hours later. Also shocked to see California (Chel is that you ) , Chicago (cousins??) , Portland ( is that you Dana?). But this morning I received an email from an ex that made me feel great. Even though I am pretty sure it was not his intention. I have copy and pasted it below for you all to evaluate. I deleted his name (although all you GL people will know who he is) and I doubt he will look at this blog again becasue he seems pretty busy. :)

Hey,

If you look at the "time sent" stamp on this you'll see it about 2:30am. I'm up late because I got back from the Sheryl Crow concert late and decided to check my email before I went to bed. For some strange reason, I googled you and finally found your blog. Looks like you have had quite a busy, and sometimes difficult couple of years. I'm only writing because as I read your blog, I realized just how different our lives are now. I am still very busy with the property, I 'm in the second year of my corn crop, 720,000 corn plants this year. Not to mention an extensive garden with a multitude of different veggies and flowers. Very satisfying. Most of Wednesday was spent on the boat, Today was the track and the Sheryl Crow concert, tomorrow is the Police with Elvis Costello, Sat. is the annual Yacht Club Town Hall Meeting, Sunday I'll be in Cooperstown for a special gift for Dave, etc. You get the idea. My days are filled with fun, or hard work, or relaxation, or whatever I choose for myself when I get up. I am happy and content, and Lindsay is a wonderful gift. The wedding is only about 5 weeks away, and we will be in Maui for 2 weeks after. We travel often, only because of the wedding did we slow down at all, but it will still be about 4 vacations this year. (Just shorter) We'll be going to Burlington VT (where I was born), for the first time since I left 50 years ago, for my birthday on the 15th.
The entire point of this email is that I just wanted to tell you that despite all the difficulty that I encountered after our breakup, I really believe (especially after reading your blog) that the right decision was made. I really believe that all the work, and strife, and difficulty you encounter raising a child (soon to be 2), despite all the rewards, would have ever been something that I could deal with on a daily basis. Lindsay and I have extremely fulfilling and exciting lives. We love each other deeply, and we our constantly doing both big and little things to surprise each other. Her family is great, and since there are a few nieces and nephews, not to mention Dave's son, I can get my fix of kids when I need, without all the other stuff. Love EX

Anyway what this made me realize is that I am really happy and lucky to be where I am today.

Where did all the good people go ?

This Jack Johnson song keeps going through my head. I feel like in the last 2 weeks my little family has been taking a lot of punches. I think it started a day or 2 before we left Maine when a crazy bookstore owner accused Rory of ripping a book. She had been right next to me the whole time and suddenly this woman grabbed her arm and and said she had ripped this 35 dollar signed childerns book. I have not blogged about this because I am not proud of my reaction. Don't piss off Mama bee because the Hive is not that stable . Anyway Rory started crying and her arm was red from where the woman grabbed her. I did not know the woman was the owner . I have been going there ever summer for years. Those of you that know me well know I love books and if Rory had ripped a book i would buy it immediately but she was no where near this book and had been at my side or in my arms the 3 minutes we were there. Anyway the woman called the police but they told me that she has early dimentia and is not right. Then we get home and basically are told that there will be construction done , I did not mention that they said that we could stay and they would do it in piece meal but WTF so we told them we would leave. They found 3 guys to live there and even though we worked so hard to leave the place spottless are taking half our deposit because they said we only gave them 2 weeks notice !! but we were on vacation !! and they had our phone # and they knew we were on vacation becasue we asked if they could water our plants!! and brought them 2 nice bottles of wine for doing it . Then i still dont have my cobra info and DHL tried to deliver it but our buzzer was broken (I did not know) So i called DHL and asked if next time they could call my cell PLEASE and they said "your buzzer being broken is not our problem" So I still dont have it and it is almost the end of the month . Next the doctor I changed to left the practice one week after he looked me in the eyes and we went over my NEW birth plan. I found out offically when I went to my appt. So i have to change to another doctor that is not as aggressive about VBAC's . Also when we looked at this apt we were told that a family lived upstairs from us. I was happy because that meant that they would proably go to bed at a normal hour and we would not have any noise issues. Well there is not family there is 4 middle eastern men all living in the same size apt as we are. They are up all hours of the night . I am so sad I just want Rory to sleep through the night but it is impossible. I dont know what we should have done differently . Look longer ... we only had so much time. I dont know what to do. And then i basically lost a friend of 20 years. I dont know what is going on with her but I can't deal with it anymore. What she did the other night is unforgivable and I have no choice.

stress

I feel really stressed. We got back from Maine and not only is the construction not done under us . The adjoining row house is going to be gutted in the next 3 weeks and that construction will take at least 6 months. The new owner of the house actually tried to come find us when he heard I was pregnant and had a little girl . To warn us that our home would soon be full of concrete dust, possibly lead paint particles and even asbestos !! So we are moving in the next 2 weeks. We are hoping to at least get part of the deposit back but who knows.

I know this might see extreme but our house shakes when construction is done downstairs I can't imagine the adjoining rooms being gutted and what that will sound like. And if you have kids you know how important naps are. Rory is a completely different kid if she does not get a good nap in the afternoon. It is really amazing.

OH and we are moving out of NYC in January so we only need a place for 5 months. This is really hard to find. but we think we found a furnished place. They of course want all 5 months up front. Smaller then ours now but cheaper. We will put our stuff in storage and just take what we need. Crib/ bassinet / clothes . basically like going on vacation . we will be in the same neighborhood .

God I hope this works out. Today I am transfering funds and filling out paperwork and Marc has already missed 2 days of work to deal with this. I am having BH contractions all the time but I think i just need to drink more water.

My parents are coming tomorrow for a visit and I feel bad that our home is now in boxes and that some of our plans are canceled so we can get ready to move. They are staying at a hotel but still .

I hope Rory deals with this move ok. A lot of her toys have to go to storage (not that she has a lot ) but still. One probably is our new apt is a 4 th floor walk up so if Marc is gone i have to walk the stroller down 4 flights and rory to get her to the park . But we will deal with it . I just have to take my time and not rush .

Maine

Well we are wrapping up our 2 week vacation in Maine. I love it here. The weather has been great. And Rory has been amazing . She really has handled everything well. Not having electricity, the ruggage terrain , ect.

She is able to escape out of her pack - n- play. Where does she get the upper body strength ??! We had it out on the screened in porch for naps and I was laying in the hammock on the other side of the house. Somehow she crawled out opened the screened in porch walked down a flight of steps on the outside of the house around the front and all of a sudden I hear gravel footsteps (did i mention she was only wearing a diaper) and says "Hi Mama!" So now we have her taking naps in a tent that we zip up with her matteress in there.

Another highlight was a 10k in Stonington, Maine on July 4th . It was hilly but really cool weather and I was back and forth with the winner of my age group. She was a local and knew where the finish was so she got me in the end. Also hard to sprint these days . I finished with a 48:15 and Marc finished with the stroller in 44 minutes flat. We were both pretty happy . I wore my Mama for Obama shirt and got lots of laughs.

I am about to enter my last trimester and I can't wait. I hope that when we get back to NYC the contruction they were doing below us is done. They promised it would be but they promise a lot of things and normally it doesnt happen. So that is about it . We miss all our NYC friends and I look forward to seeing Astoria Park moms and dads.

Can someone tell me what the Man in the Yellow Hat does for a living????

This dude has a high rise apartment in the city. With this one who is known as TBD I have no idea. My last period (sorry boys ) was December 21 ( I was and am still breastfeeding so everything was screwy) which would have her due Sept 27th. But the first ultrasound we had said Oct 10th the second a week later Oct 19 and the third 1 week after that Oct 16 . (I had a lot of ultrasounds because of my progesterone being so low) Oh and dont even ask me when we had sex because I had finally lost the baby weight, Rory was sleeping through the night so ALL of January was Sex Fest 08. And then there was what Marc called pity sex when he didnt get in to the graduate program he wanted so who knows. Anyway it didnt bother me that I didnt know until this week I really want to know am I 24 or 25 weeks pregnant??? I know it is just a weeks difference but mentally it would mean so much .

Mini 10k

So I ran the mini 10k today. For some reason I am not under my Hellgate team but just my name. My time was 50:03 and my goal had been to run under an 8 minute pace and i came close . At the start it was already in the 70's and by the end i swear it was in the 80's. I am pretty happy with the time. I was on target until after mile 5 running with a New York Flyer girl who totally helped me through that mile. But I fell apart the last mile. I was hot and that mile in Central Park is always a tough one for me. Anyway it felt so good to see my team and talk to them. I have to try and get out with friends at least twice a month. I hope this was not my last race in Central Park .

Thanks anonymous guy

I made it to 40 miles! All because of a guy on the track. I ran about 3 1/2 miles before finally going over to the track. I was going pretty slow and almost had started to walk. I entered the track thinking I would do a lap to see my pace and head back home. When a guy came up on the inside lane (I was in lane 2) I figure he would pass me but we stayed together for a lap then we came up to a walker in lane 2 . He sped ahead so i could duck in and then slowed up again so i could get even with him. This is when I realized this guy wants to run with me. I was pretty happy since A. I am 21 week prego and B he was young , early twenties , hottie. ( sorry Marc but I am having your second kid what more do you want) so we ran 2 1/2 miles on the track at under a 8 minute pace . NOt a word was spoken both listening to headphones . At the end he stopped a lap earlier and when I came around again I thanked him for his help and he thanked me. This rarely happens to me where I find someone that just wants to pace with me not chat or race just run it was great and made me feel good. Especially because I have been feeling really unattractive lately. Not like this guy was asking me out but he was not embarrassed to run with me so it felt nice.

20 weeks !!!

Well I am over the half way point. So far i have maintained between 32 to 42 miles per week. This week I hope to get 40 miles in . I want to try and keep up the mileage until at least week 30 . but we will see... In other news Marc and I have no plan as of yet. We seem to be spinning in circles waiting for a divine message to point us in the direction we should go. One option on the table is buying a 30 foot cabin cruiser and making our way from Maine down to Key West. This is actually not a joke . But at what port would I give birth ?

Password

hey I think my blog needs to go password protected for a while. Things are good. Remotes are fun. I love them. However I have never been at a remote where I could not go out drinking with the crew . I was telling the kids (what i call jr. staff) stories about hooking up on remotes. It is a common practice and anyone that works in TV knows. And by hooking up i can just mean making out. Anyway it happens long hours, couple of cocktails and suddenly you are making out with a Disney employee on the safari ride at Animal Kingdom. Anyway one of the kids (jr. staff) asked if I could who would I hook up with on this remote. I thought about it for a second and then said "well I have been in negotiations with him for about 2 weeks so I guess it would be Ben Franklin" To which one of them said "Kate be careful he has syphilis "

To blog or not to blog

I dont have a lot to say. Marc and I went together and i am glad because a lot of the questions I could not answer I would only look at Marc. I am never home for meals with her. And although I feed her when I am off I have really no idea of patterns. I see her for 1 1/2 hours every night and about 40 minutes in the morning. It is a strange situation with me always nagging Marc , she needs more vegetables, fruit or she needs to eat more ect. But then i always back down because he is her primary care giver and at some point I doubt my own self. But today we were basically told that we have to get her to eat more. She has lost weight since her last doctor visit but grown 2 or 3 inches. She is 32 inches and 19 pounds . At 15 months this is really skinny. I felt like the worst mom. Marc and I have such different ways of approaching parenting. I like structure . Meal times, nap times . (with in reason) he is more free flowing. She naps when she naps and eats when she eats ect... Did I mention I hate that I am not home with her more.

Easter in Long Island

Went Well! YOu should go to their website. They have so many events for kids. Marc is taking Rory to the kids carvinal in APril while I will be in Philadelphia so if anyone wants to join them... Anyway the 4 and under hunt is just as aggresive as the older kids. If i had not picked her up and started running toward the eggs we would have ended up with none. As it was we had a grand total of 2 . One donated by a 4 year old who felt bad for us. "Mommy look they only have one egg in their basket" as we walked back to the start. Marc video taped it but they would not let him pass the start, only one parent, so all you see is me finally picking her up and start running toward the eggs. They have a petting zoo and she talked to the sheep. They would Baaaa and she would BAaaa back. They also have a kids band and kids dance. So cute.

On another note this baby is kicking my butt. I am so tired and feel sick. I can't wait for the 1st trimester to be over. We were supposed to have Easter here because of this and Rory's recent carsickness (anything over 30 minutes ) but Marc forgot to ask his mom and sister to come here so they assumed we were coming out there. So it turned into hurt feelings and angry calls to Marc on Friday . You don't even want to know what was said . So i just finally said lets go out there it is not worth it. So we are going tomorrow. I am always nervous about going out there. Last time we were out there a month ago. MY MIL told Rory that her Father was the most talented creative man in the world and well your mother we put up with her. She did not know i was in the doorway and I just said "ummm that was nice and walked away" Marc talked to her later but it doesnt matter nothing changes. She wishes Marc married someone else ... someone less to quote her "American". It is so hard and now harder with a child. My grandparents never said one negative word about either of my parents. I have tried to talk to her , emailed her ect but how do you change the additude of a 75 year old woman. Anyway we will see tomorrow...

New Post

This is for my dad who says I don't post enough. So I think my orginal prediction of being newly pregnant was right. ALthough I was hoping that i was further along because of my LMP. So I dont have to go back for 4 weeks YEAH!! I saw the heartbeat. and a little semi bean. I still feel overwhelmed . I can barely be a good mom to 1 baby and now 2!!! On another note Rory has the stomach flu she woke up at 4am with a fever and sick to her stomach (over and over again) I stayed up with her until I had to go to the doctor and then to work. She was so upset when I put on my coat I felt awful. I hate HATE not being home more. I can't wait for the weather to get warmer because at night now i have to chose between a 1 hour run or 1 extra hour with my daughter. Soon we can all go out together. Do you think my doctor will let me push the jogging stroller and run while pregnant hahahahahha? I already got him to cave and keep allowing me to breastfeed . Can you believe he has never had a client breastfeed while pregnant? Ok that is all for now. It has been 2 weeks since i had the positive test. With Rory we saw the heartbeat at 5 1/2 weeks. Also I feel like I should be at 9 weeks. If I am going by my LMP which was Dec 21st. I know I am breastfeeding so that might throw it off. And I have only had 3 periods since giving birth in Dec 06 (sorry boys who read my blog). I was ready today for any news. i was braced. I even went by myself because I felt i could handle the news better on my own if it was bad. Not knowing is the worst part.

The little fighting Shupp

Looks like I am a baby having a baby. Here is a quick update. Rory is just starting to crawl and she can stand unaided for about 10 seconds. She will only eat 2 meals a day the doctor said to have her eat 3 but she refuses and she is gaining weight fine so I am not going to push it. I had my first business trip away from her at the end of July and when 3 planes got cancelled in a row and I realized I was going to have to spend another night away from her I started crying in front of my boss and the location manager. I could not stop . I think i scared my boss so much I now get to work 1/2 days on Friday LOL . Attached is a picture of Rory trying pureed Chicken for the first time. In utero she logged about 700 miles . Post-utero she has logged a little over 600 miles. Her goal race was the Kissena Park fun run. As you see in the picture she was off to a slow start but being the experienced runner she knew to pace herself. Her sprint in the last 5 yards gave her the win and the medal you see around her neck. She was a gracious winner and shook all the other participants hands as they crossed the finish after her. Pure class. Special thanks to Jared her professional photographer. (she hardly goes anywhere with out him) and her Manager LuAnn. I had last week off from work and what a week. I loved being with Rory round the clock. Now for my confession. Oh and if you are a guy on my running team and don't want to hear about my breasts/ nipples or Breastfeeding . Stop reading now. Alan !!!! Hans !!! why are you still reading ;) Ok so my confession is I have used a nip guard to breastfeed since week 2. I could type a million excuses as to why but I won't. I felt really guilty about it , so guilty that I was scared to meet other Breastfeeding moms and have them say , that is not right. Or that i could do it if I worked at it. So now for the gift part. This week off I vowed to only BF Rory , no bottles. On thurday as I was BFing and talking to Marc I felt a different sesation. I look down ROry is holding the nip gaurd in her hand and latched on to my bare ta ta ! I thought this is not going to last but it did the whole feeding. Next feeding(other breast) she did the samething and the rest of the week we did it bare breast. I was so happy. Now I am back at work so I might have to go back to the nip guard but what a great couple of days.

On a sidenote: Why do moms feel so guilty ? and I think I am safe to say ALL moms. Wether you work or stay at home , breast or formula feed.

RORY GRACE

Bragging

My husband has been begging me to post. She grabs on and pulls herself from sitting to standing postion. My fingers bare no wait they are only there for her to use as she sways from side to side . Started running 10 days after c-section. Felt good , increased my mileage each week. 8 1/2 weeks post op I decide to run a 4 mile race. Ran in a 7:16 pace. Went out fast first 2 miles under 7 minute then I faded. I cross the line and my right side seizes in pain. A lot of pain. I barely make it home. Have not run in 10 days and am getting an MRI today. I can barely walk , can't pick up my baby, am very depressed VERY depressed . Feel like I may never walk right again let alone run. Have seen 3 specialist , 1 said I should go on disability since my job is 4 floors of stairs , that at this point I can't walk. I have gotten a million different answers as to what it is and what will solve it but nothing works . Have been told it is my sciatic nerve, Pylformous syndrome (spelling totally wrong), Tight quads , hips out of alignment. Been told to stretch , don't stretch , Strengthen , don't strengthen , Ice, heat . I still want advice , you never know. It is pain near or about the sciatic area that then travels a bit down the outside of my legs. 2 doctors told me my hips are out of alignment making one leg shorter then the other. So i tend to believe the 2 of them. I dont think Iwill be running for a long time . But at this point I just want to walk. :( very depressed

Closed my eyes and thought of England

If you know what I am talking about ... then you KNOW what I am talking about.

back to work

I go back to work tomorrow. There are spelling and grammatical errors

5:00am I am already awake and shut off the alarm before it goes off. I wake up Marc. It is a surreal feeling gathering up the hospital bag knowing that when we come back we would be three. We were told to be at the hospital at 6:30am . I am admitted and the Cervidel (drug used to open your cervix ) is inserted. I have to wait 12 hours and am put on an IV . This is difficult because it limits my ability to walk around . I not allowed to drink or eat anything only ice chips. I was in mild discomfort and having contractions throughout the day. At 7:00pm the doctor came and took the cervedil out and checked my progress. None. He said . Kate you need a C-section. I started to cry hysterically and Marc tried to question him aggressively (as those of you know Marc well can imagine) . And the doctor said “You need to trust my judgement!” So the doctor went to his apartment 9 blocks away to have dinner and would come back at 10:00pm for the C-section. Toward the last few hours on the cervidel I had been in more and more pain and I thought once they took the cervidel out the pain would stop. As soon as the doctor left I started to have more and more pain . Marc went to tell the nurse but it was right in the shift change. He came back and I started to really feel pain . He went back but the new nurse did not seem to believe anything was really going on and said she would be in to check on me shortly. After 1 hour at around 9:00pm Marc went out and did he best Shirley McClain (Terms of Endearment) impersonation. She came in took one look at the monitor and said :”Oh my God you are in active labor, This never happens.” She ran to call my doctor and told him she would just have a resident check me . Well he didn’t really believe I was in active labor and said that he would be there shortly to confirm it. All I kept thinking was how long does it take to walk 9 blocks !!! He came in and said “Well Kate you are in active labor , I know how important a natural birth is to you, lets see where this takes us” He broke my water as I recited Hail Marys and the Prayer to Saint Anthony. Somewhere in the mists of this I found out my doctor was a Republican and thought George Bush was doing a good job. I just kept thinking a Republican is going to deliver my baby , if only I had known sooner LOL. My contractions started coming fast 1 minute apart lasting 2 minutes . I could not get a hold of them . All the books I read said they ramped up to this point not started here. Wasn’t this transition (The last stage of labor) How long can this go on. The doctor ordered the epidermal because it was to intense. I tried the lamaze breathing HEE HEE HO my ass ! The epidural only really took on the left side , So I really still had the pain just on the right.. 12:00am 3 centimeters not bad for 4 hours . Doctor would check me again at 3 am . I labored through the next 3 hours . The Nurse said at the pace of my contractions I should have the baby easily by noon. Ok I thought I can do this . I am going to do this ! 3:30am doctor came and checked . Kate you have made so progress you are still at 3 , your baby is to high and it is time for the C-section . What ?! Marc was angry “she has been in active labor for hours we have to give her a chance!” What about Pitocin ? (This is a drug used to induce labor) The doctor just calmly looked at Marc and said her contraction are as hard and quick as they are going to get they can’t get any closer together or stronger , her uterus is exhausted her blood pressure is failing . Marc was trying to be my advocate but I just looked over at him exhausted and said I can’t do it honey I am sorry. It was a sad sad moment . They prepped me for surgery and I started to have a panic attack I have never really had any surgery done . I remember saying to the nurse I don’t think I can do this I am too weak. They separated Marc and I as I was wheeled in the the OR . I remember telling the doctor that I was a belly dancer on the weekends and don’t ruin my career. He asked if I was serious ! No ! I make inappropriate jokes to get me through . That is my MO. In the operating room someone asked what kind of insurance to I have . UMMM !! Hello I pre-registered at this Hospital like 3 months ago you have me strapped down like Jesus on the cross and our asking me what kind of insurance I have? I wish I would have been more with to say “Oh I don’t have any HAHAHHA” but by this time I was numb with a spinal block. Not to feel your legs is horrible but as a runner it was one of the worst things I could imagine. So before they let Marc in they told me that in 10 minutes I would meet my baby and the whole procedure would take 1 hour 15 minutes. Because the nurse said my doctor is anal and that he stitches everything ., Normally a C-section takes 30 minutes not him . But hey I would rather have that . So Marc walks in and they begin. There is a sheet in front of us so we can’t see anything . I ask Marc what time is it and he tell me 4:27am on his watch . Marc tries to keep my mind off things by telling me stories, How we met ? , First time in Maine together, the cabin, Then I ask him what time is it ? 4:34am and I say “We are going to meet our daughter in 3 minutes . And he said “What are you talking about?” I said “The nurse told me 10 minutes in she would be born.” All he said was “Oh my God” He was so happy. Then my doctor shouted “You are about to give birth “ (This was really nice to say because it makes you feel like it doesn’t matter about C-section) I felt a lot of pulling and tugging and then Marc and I heard her cry . And he and I clinked our foreheads together and started crying ourselves hard. I kept asking to see her but they keep telling me not yet. The nurse was reassuring but I knew something was wrong . She had mucus in her lungs and I could hear them pounding on her back . I was so out of it and Marc could not see anything and they would not let him move from were he was. Finally after 20 minutes they let us see her . She was beautiful . 8 /9 on apar . They asked Marc to take her out of the room while they finished me up.

"I'm the decider"

In the past week this seems to be Rory's motto. No she does not support Bush's plan to send 20,000 more troops . (By the way his plan is actually to send 21,500 , but who is counting , certainly not him) Rory seems to be in a very fussy stage. In fact as I type Marc is jogging in place with her in the baby Bjorn. She has been up since 7am and it is 8pm now. Not crying the whole time but enough of it . We do all the 5 S's from "Happiest Baby on the Block DVD' and this works until 10 minutes after we think we have her to sleep and put her in either bassinet, rocker , carseat we have tried it all. I feel like it started when her schedule became messed up this morning. Our power suddenly went out (again) I looked outside and Con ED was there. I went to the basement apartment where our landlords live and there was landlord's dad. They all know I have a newborn and have been working on the power for about 3 months now. The power goes out about once a week sometimes for the day . So this being the coldest day of the year I was upset. He acted as if he should not have either let me know and said it would be back on in a few minutes and acted as him I was just a crazy new mom. So after 1 hour and the temp dropping 7 degrees. I went back downstairs . No one was there so now I throw on my shoes to go outside. Con Ed is pulling away and I am chasing him down the street. Wait ! Wait ! I still dont have power ! The Con Ed guy says he turned on all the breakers but agrees to come back and take a look. She we go back in . he asks me if I have a key to the basement apartment . Umm NO! Oh then I can't do anything . So now I had to find me landlord. All the while Rory is screaming. It takes a while but the landlord comes back and acts like it is the electricians fault. So the temp in our apartment was at 55 degrees by the time the heat went on. I really hate this place . I want to move but the thought of packing up everything and moving yet again is unthinkable. Oh and it is not just this one thing . It has been this way since we moved in August. when it rains water comes in the windows , drafts through the house , recycling issues where they blamed us for a ticket but we recycle correctly and it was there shit that got the ticket. They paid it but blamed us and said that next time we would have to pay. And they wrote a nasty letter and then dug through our trash on recycling day to make sure we did it right ! They had not moved in yet and we put to potted mums on the front steps outside and were told we could not do that . They still had not moved in downstairs and we put up Christmas lights and where told by the mother in law that her daughter (she is landlords wife) was devastated because she wanted to put up the lights . BUT NO ONE BUT US LivE HERE! they moved in when we were in the hospital after Christmas. Wow this blog turned in to a huge Bitch session thanks for listening.

2nd week home

Rory turned 3 weeks yesterday !! She is changing so much everyday. It is really amazing. I will post the birth story soon.

Running is going slow , ran about 24 miles this week. The great fun was running on the track during a interval practice 2 miles in a 7:45 pace. I still have about 10-15 pounds (Depends on what time of year) to lose which is a bit depressing . and Breastfeeding is A LOT harder then I thought. I think i am to selfish to breastfeed but I am doing it one day at a time.

1st week home

12/31 Rory comes home. I am still in the hospital but hope to be going home tomorrow. I will post birth story later. I have not been able to post becasue I was and still am in a lot of pain.

She had some trouble breathing (mucus in the lungs) in the beginning and I did not get to see her for 20 minutes then they had to finish stiching me up. In the recovery room the wonderful nurse (she knew it was important to me to breast feed and really tried ) tried to get her to latch on to my breast but we were both so tired and I could not feel anything . So we got off to a slow start with that . I am breast feeding now and my nipples are so red, dired and cracked. I have lansinoh and am using ice packs but I am dieing here. If anyone has any advice I would love it . Sorry if it is TMI for anyone. Like I said I will write the birth story soon . Maybe with a pint of Guiness tomorrow night :) (FYI Guiness is supposed to be great in bringing in your breast milk so I am doing it for the baby.)

Being induced

They can't let me go any longer and I am being induced 12/26 at 6:30am. I worked hard this whole pregnancy to maximize my chances of having a natural birth. I have tried everything to get things going. I am not star struck and have never been really excited by a particular guest or appearance on any show I have worked on. Except maybe the time I met Mr. Rogers. So imagine my surprise when I got back to my desk after a morning meeting to find a email from PAULA RADCLIFFE! From what appears to be a personal email account. On Aug 2nd I posted on her message board that I was 2 weeks ahead of her pregnancy wise and that I wish she would post more about running while pregnant. I had read that she was still doing 2 runs a day but I wanted details. What was the mileage and pace ? Was she still racing for fun ? YOu should have seen my crazed enthusiasm as I ran around the office with the printed email in my hand showing anyone that would listen. I was met by a chorus of "Who?" But I don't care because PAULA RADCLIFFE wrote me !! Ok so, It is only 3 sentences and does not address the questions I asked her but SHE STILL WROTE ME :) Below is the email copy and pasted. For some reason eblogger won't let me post her website on here .

Here is the email I deleted her email address , have to protect my new BFF.

Make sure you listen to your body and don't run if you don't feel like it ! And keep your doctors in the loop on what you are doing.
Good luck,

Rory's first Red Carpet

Ok dont have a red carpet picture yet . Still have to get them off my phone . THis is a picture of me in the hotel lobby with our staff . I look a bit stressed because not all the limos are there and we need to get going . And that is my job to make sure we are on time .

Ok some of you may be wondering "Who is Rory?" . Rory is the name of my baby girl that is inside me . Yes it is a girl and her name is Rory Grace. She is amazingly talented and beautiful at just 25 weeks gestation.

Now for the Red Carpet part. The show I work on was nominated for 4 Emmys so off we flew to LA for the red carpet. It was a lot of fun. I have a ton of pictures on my camera phone that I got by security by pretending to be concerned that the metal detector may hurt my baby. I will post a picture in the next week. I look a bit enormous in my Emmy dress. Rory and I took our time down the red carpet. When ever one of the Emmy workers tried to usher us "rift raft " along I would hold my belly and tell them in a breathless voice that I was going as fast as I could . To which they apologized and ran and got me a bottle of water. HAHAHHAHAHA. Please before I got there I had done a 5 mile run along Sunset Blvd. Anyway I promise to use pregnancy power for good and not evil. We lost. But all and all it was a great moment in my life. Going down the Red Carpet with my baby girl :) I did not make it to the Comedy Central after party. After 8 hours in stiletto heals and in the 100 degree heat I collapsed on the hotel bed. Only to catch the 5am to Boston and then a drive up to Maine for a week YEAH!!! Not a bad weekend for a 6 month pregnant chic.

Last Race

Until next year. (don't listen to what 1010 wins says that as of this morning power is restored. There was no power on our block) It has been a really tough few days. Yesterday we had about 15 Con Ed workers on our block, really nice guys that promised us electricity that night . Unfortunately that did not happen. They began jack hammering at 1:30am in the mornign to create a tunnel to lay cable. Saying that the when they attempted to get electricity from the other side of the block there was no enough. At 3:30am the police were summoned by some neighbors and Con Ed had to stop until 7am. It was extremely loud and you can't shut your windows because it was so hot. And everyone had to work today. This morning I heard our neighbor in her 80's who does not speak a lot of English. Tried to ask nicely to the COn Ed workers when the power might be restored. She said quote "When , When Please I despair " To which the COn Ed worker said "Look Lady you could be in Lebanon ... It will get done when it gets done" This caused my Irish to suddenly flare . I went outside red faced and angry yelling at the con Ed guy. All she was asking was when . She has had not electricity for 8 days ! The Red Cross stops by everyday to give her one meal but that is it !

This is why I have high blood pressure ...

Why do I feel so guilty running ?

Lately this is how I feel. Even though my doctor is well aware of what I am doing. However when I was there on Tuesday he asked how many miles I was still getting in. When I replied still about 30-35 . He raised his eyebrow and said "You are still able to do that" . As if maybe he said yes to my running request in the beginning figuring that I would eventually drop it. He then told me that sounded more like Marathon training . Hello!! did I not tell you the last 5 appointments my weekly mileage. It was like all of a sudden it was this shocker. Everytime I feel guilty I scour the internet for information. There is really not a lot . The Europeans really seem to advocate running while pregnant more then the Americans and I wonder why. I have read some wonderful articles by Ingrid Kristiansen (2-time Boston Marathon winner (1986,89); won New York City Marathon in 1989; former world record holder in the marathon). And Elaine Cooper (winner of the London Marathon) . Both ran throughout and even competed in races while pregnant. I know these are elite athletes but I am not doing anything close to what they did . IN fact Ingrid ran 200km a week until her 5th month. Also what is getting worse as it becomes more obvious that I am pregnant is non-runners yelling for me to stop running. I watch their eyes as I run toward them lock on to my belly and I wait to hear their comments . Not all people . Some say "YOu go girl" but the ones that yell . "you shouldn't be running , that is not good for the baby ect hurt my feelings. At least give me till after the birth to say I am a bad mom. That is all just venting. This is a picture of baby's first race a 5k in Dublin , OHio . I was 5 weeks pregnant and I could not figured out why I was not able to breathe this whole race. I found out 2 days later :)

Baby's first half marathon

Not quite but we did 6+ miles of the Bronx Half . It is hard for me to talk or type and not be toldly honest. Apparently when I was getting my groove back and my hamstring pull "worked on" I also got knocked up. Yup I am 12 weeks pregnant. So let me fill you in on the last 8 weeks. First some of you know we have been having trouble getting pregnant. Hence Marc's surgery . The doctor said there was a 50% chance the surgery would work but that not to except results for 3 months. So after just one month when I was a bit late I took a test and saw 2 lines the second was very very faint. Marc was sure it was a false positive because of what the doctor said. You should have seen him with the instructions in one hand and the box in another the stick in front of him on the coffee table. We just had waited so long that we couldn't believe it. So that is my update. I will be blogging more. Oh and I am still running I am doing about 30-35 miles a week . I have not raced yet but I may get in a race for fun.

Why my hamstring feels better or How Kate got her groove Back

If you want to hear why I think my hamstring feels better keep reading . If you don't want to hear about my love life Stop reading . No seriously Stop . STOP!! You people are sick . But here you go... I have been icing , stretching strengthening and some massage for the past week. My husband let's call him Marc ( who has totally signed a release agreement saying I can post this) had surgery 4 weeks ago. This particular surgery meant NO work, NO running and absolute NO lets say "Smooching" but on Friday we got the green light from the Doctor . And away we went, rented a cabin outside New Paltz for some relaxing, running and of course some smooching . What I am saying for those injured is ease up on isometric, isokinetic, eccentric, dynamic and plyometric and tune up on the smoochometric.

* I am not a doctor
* Always practice smooching safely and responsibly

Bring on the advice

To the Brittany Spears tune:

Oops I did it again
I ramped up my mileage
I did it to fast
Oh baby
Now I am injured
it is my hamstring
What should I do ?
I am so depressed

Ever since the half my hamstring have felt tight. I got a massage and was still able to run and bike. Last night however during our track work out I knew something was seriously wrong. I could not run fast . I was hoping to do all 4 miles in or around 6 minute pace . I have been feeling stronger. But as I tried to lengthen my stride and lift my legs I felt pain in the back of my thigh. Depressed I trotted home and went immediately to the internet. Not a tear but most definitely a strain or pull? Anyway I am stretching it ... Icing it. I still plan on doing the stationary bike at the gym tonight. I am lucky in that I have only been injured twice in my 20 years of running (first 5k age 10 24:32) . Once the IT band in college and once before the Philly marathon in ought 4 some tissue damage in the knee. So this is new . So please pour on the advice. Ok you get my point but in case you dont see other examples in the following paragraph.

He is: The Donald to my Martha, Tybalt to my Mercutio, a streudel to my Atkins, Judas to my Jesus, Sunnis to my Shiite, A bunch of shrapnel to my Bob Woodward.

So i accept your challenge and I suggest this stage in 2 weeks the Scotland Run. :)
On another note I can barely walk today after the half.

Danny Boy

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! This is one of my favorite days of the year. I am dressed in green from head to toe. I came in early to the office played some Irish Music and shared soda bread with other Irish colleagues. I would love after work to head to an Irish pub and tell stories until the wee hours of morn, but The Brooklyn half is tomorrow.

It also makes me miss my favorite person to spend this day with my Pop-Pop. Daniel Joseph Mckinney would have been 89 years old on May 19th. He was one of my best friends as well as my grandpa. He was born in Brooklyn into a family of cops. He could get you laughing with a wink and smile. He told the best stories. And he drank serveral martinis a day. In fact the night he died he had 2 martinis and went to bed and that was it. He was the stero-typical Irish guy.

So I missed him so much that yesterday I asked him to send me a sign. I thought maybe he would send me a dream or something. I awoke disappointed, no dream. But as I was leaving for work I opened the hall closet and out fell his old tape measure onto to my foot. Ouch! This is so him he loved practical jokes. I just picture him saying "you want a sign here you go!" SO corny I know but it is all I got. Sorry the picture of him is so bad it is the only one I have on line .

Pressure :)

So my friend Yvonne posted that I started a blog and kindly put the link on her blog . This has finally forced me to post again . Since the last time being January 11th.

Lots has happened of course since that last interesting blog but I will just give you the last few days.

I have just recently started to try and come back into running competively. After a huge bust in Boston last year I have been taking it easy. Also started a new job in August that has longer work hours. Don't you hate in when work interferes with your running. Ran a 15k this past Sunday in a 7:16 pace. I was happy but it was still hard considering where my times were 1 year ago.

So that is all I got for now. This is a picture of my husband and I . I am the one on the right . I find I like the blogs with the pictures of the people whose lives I am reading about. Hope everyone reading this is doing well and I hope it wont be another 2 months before I post again.

My first Post

Hello !!!
